Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, as authorities continue a wave of executions during the ongoing war and in the aftermath of nationwide protests earlier this year.

The judiciary’s Mizan news agency reported on Wednesday that Mehdi Farid was hanged after being convicted in Qom Province. According to the report, Farid was employed by a “sensitive state organisation" and allegedly passed information to the Israeli spy agency.

No further details of the case were made public, and Mizan did not specify what kind of information Farid was accused of providing or when the alleged activities took place.

Human rights activists have long criticised Iran’s judicial process, stating that defendants are often tried behind closed doors and denied the opportunity to properly defend themselves. They argue that such trials fall short of international standards of due process.

Farid’s execution comes amid a series of recent hangings in Iran targeting individuals accused of spying, participating in protests, or having links to an exiled Iranian opposition group. Rights groups say these executions are part of a broader campaign by Tehran to silence dissent and tighten control at a time of heightened internal and regional tensions.
