“Is this a bar?” Uttarakhand local schools men littering roadside, internet applauds

A short video from Uttarakhand has turned into a talking point on social media, not because of drama or outrage, but because it shows something many people often wish would happen more often.

At a time when public spaces are frequently misused and ignored, one local resident chose not to stay silent. His calm but firm response has now resonated with thousands online, turning a small roadside incident into a wider conversation about responsibility and respect.

A local speaks up

The video shows a man from Uttarakhand confronting a group of five men who had stopped their car outside a roadside shop. According to what is visible in the clip, the men were drinking alcohol openly and throwing waste on the road.

Instead of walking away, the local resident decided to record the scene and question their actions.

The clip later gained attention after being shared on X by user Sidharth Shukla, who praised the man for taking a stand. In his caption, he wrote, “Kudos to this local. Most won't say anything, but high time we all started.”

What the camera captured

In the video, the local man points his camera towards the group standing behind their parked car, with the boot open.

As he records, he says, “Look at this, these men are openly drinking alcohol and throwing their trash on the road.” His tone is direct as he questions why they were behaving this way in a public place. He then tells them clearly, “Is this a bar? Pick up all this trash and leave.”

An immediate change in behaviour

Soon after being confronted, one of the men walks over to the litter and starts picking it up. The others avoid the camera and appear uncomfortable.

As the local man continues speaking, the group hurriedly cleans the area, gestures for him to calm down, and tries to hide their alcohol bottles. The man reminds them of where they are and who is around. “This is a village, there are young kids and women around this area. Don’t you have any shame? You’re littering in front of someone’s shop; they would be the ones getting scolded for your mistake.” The men remain silent, finish cleaning, and then leave the spot.

Strong support online

The video received widespread support on social media. Many users praised the local resident for not ignoring the situation. Others criticised the group for disrespecting public places. One comment read, “It’s high time we start looking down on people who make public places dirty in any form.” Another user wrote, “Rather than enjoying nature, people tend to exploit both themselves and their environment.” A third added, “Very good. Such acts should always be reported.”Disclaimer: This story is based on a viral video shared on social media. The Times of India has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.
