The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second big constituent of the United Democratic Front (UDF), is learned to have expressed its strong displeasure at the way UDF chairman and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan has handled the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) State convener P.V. Anvar issue.
Although IUML national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty told newsmen that the UDF would work together for the victory of its candidate Aryadan Shoukath in Nilambur, a meeting of the IUML held here on Sunday raised the party’s displeasure at the UDF chairman’s actions.
IUML sources said leaders like K.M. Shaji and M.K. Muneer questioned the IUML’s silence when Mr. Satheesan ‘mishandled’ the Anvar issue by resorting to a delaying tactic.
‘Neglect of efforts’
Mr. Anvar had said that Mr. Kunhalikutty and IUML State president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal supported and worked for his entry into the UDF. But it was Mr. Satheesan who prevented it by “cleverly delaying the announcement of Mr. Anvar’s entry.” The League leaders were unhappy with Mr. Satheesan for his alleged neglect of Mr. Kunhalikutty’s efforts to bring Mr. Anvar along.
