Several NDA leaders have criticised the YSRCP for opposing the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model of developing medical colleges.

Addressing the media in Amaravati on Wednesday, Lanka Dinakar, Chairman of the 20-Point Programme, alleged that YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was creating unnecessary apprehensions on the issue.

Mr. Dinakar said the YSRCP president’s remarks reflected his flawed understanding of the PPP framework, which had been used extensively during his term in extending public health services such as Aarogyasri and emergency ambulance network.

Mr. Dinakar pointed out that medical services delivered through PPP were earlier projected as government initiatives by the YSRCP.

The BJP leader said the coalition government was focused on completing the construction of the stalled medical colleges and expanding healthcare access. He said the YSRCP allegations and protests were hindering progress.

Mr. Dinakar further observed that lack of clarity on the PPP model among the YSRCP MPs was evident during their recent interaction with the Union Finance Minister.

Sharing a similar view, TDP official spokesperson and Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhiram said the YSRCP was adopting contradictory stance on the PPP model.

Speaking in Mangalagiri, Mr. Pattabhiram noted that the YSRCP MPs had endorsed private participation in medical education at the national level, including the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare. “This contrast between the party’s stance in Delhi and its protests in Andhra Pradesh has created confusion among the people,” he said.
