Jake Paul suffered a serious injury after being knocked out by Anthony Joshua in their highly anticipated Netflix boxing bout. The fight ended in round six of the scheduled eight rounds, which matched the expectations of most boxing fans.

Joshua dominated the contest with his power and experience. Paul was dropped four times and failed to beat the referee’s count after a crushing right hand from the former heavyweight world champion.Soon after the fight, concerns grew about Paul’s condition. The YouTuber-turned-boxer later revealed that he may have suffered a broken jaw. He shared an X-ray that appeared to show a double fracture. The injury likely happened when Joshua landed a clean punch to Paul’s jaw.

Despite the loss and injury, Paul remained defiant and insisted he plans to return to boxing and chase a world title.

Sports medicine doctor Brian Sutterer explains Jake Paul’s broken jaw injury

Jake Paul confirmed his fears shortly after the fight. Speaking in the ring, he said, “I think my jaw is broken.” He later added, “Man, that was good. Nice little a** whooping from one of the best to ever do it. I love this s***, and I’ll be back to get a world championship belt at some point.”Sports medical doctor Brian Sutterer reviewed the injury on his YouTube channel.

He explained that a broken jaw can also be linked to other issues. These include a possible concussion. This could have happened when Joshua’s punch caused Paul’s head to twist violently. Sutterer noted that concussions do not always show symptoms straight away. The punch landed near the centre of the mandible, close to the temporomandibular joint. This is a common area for jaw fractures. The lower part of the mandible is the most frequent fracture site.

Near this area sits the inferior alveolar nerve, along with blood vessels. Damage there can cause bleeding, which appeared during Paul’s post-fight interview. If surgery is needed, doctors would check for displaced bone or joint dislocation. Damage to teeth could also turn the injury into an open fracture. In that case, antibiotics would be required. Sutterer said the next step is realigning the broken bones. Muscles often help hold the jaw in place during healing.

If that fails, plates and screws may be needed.Paul later spoke about the fight and loss. He said, “I’m not surprised. I just got tired, to be honest. It was just so much handling his weight. If I had better cardio, I could’ve kept it up and kept fighting. He did amazing; he hits really hard.”The loss leaves Paul with a 12-2 record. It was his first defeat since losing to Tommy Fury in 2023. Despite the injury, Paul says he still hopes to fight for a cruiserweight world title in the future. Also Read: Jake Paul threatens legal action after Deontay Wilder claims Anthony Joshua fight is “scripted”
