A Vardy Party set to take place at… Cremonese?

Jamie Vardy is said to be in negotiations over a possible move to newly-promoted Serie A Cremonese, who have taken the top flight by storm so far.

According to AFP, discussions remain at an early stage following initial contact with Vardy earlier this week. The veteran striker, a Premier League champion with Leicester City, is currently considering his next step after ending a remarkable 13-year spell at the Midlands club last season.

End of an era at Leicester

Signed from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012 while still juggling part-time football with work in a factory, Vardy rose rapidly through the divisions to become a Premier League icon.

He played a pivotal role in Leicester’s promotion to the top flight, helping them win the Championship title in 2014. Just two years later, he spearheaded the club’s unforgettable 2015–16 campaign, scoring 24 league goals as Claudio Ranieri’s team stunned the world to lift the Premier League trophy.

That season, Vardy etched his name into history by scoring in 11 consecutive league matches, breaking a record previously held by Manchester United great Ruud van Nistelrooy. He would go on to claim the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019–20, underlining his status as one of England’s most prolific forwards.

Career milestones and international exploits

Over the course of 500 appearances for Leicester, Vardy netted 200 goals across all competitions, adding the 2021 FA Cup to his list of honours. On the international stage, he won 26 caps for England, scoring seven goals and featuring at both Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.

Though now 38, Vardy remains admired for his pace, directness, and relentless work ethic.

Cremonese’s flying start to Serie A

Cremonese’s interest in Vardy comes at a time of newfound optimism for the club. Under coach Davide Nicola, the team from the northern town of Cremona has begun the season in fine fashion.

Last weekend, they earned their first-ever win at AC Milan’s iconic San Siro before backing it up with Friday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Sassuolo.

With six points from their opening two matches, Cremonese find themselves sitting at the summit of Serie A—an unexpected position for a side that only secured promotion last season.
