Amid growing intelligence inputs indicating militants were preparing to hit high-value targets in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday (December 22, 2025) said terror groups and their supporters were “firmly on the radar of the law enforcement agencies”.
“The police will completely eradicate anti-national and anti-social elements from J&K. Terrorists, drug dealers, gangsters, etc., remain under the police scanner,” Mr. Prabhat said at the 14th Police Martyrs Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament in Jammu’s Kathua.
Mr. Prabhat’s statement comes at a time when security has been heightened across J&K. Multiple search operations, ranging over several days, were carried out in the upper reaches of Rajouri and Kishtwar districts last week, following tip-offs on the movement of militants, and reports of them dining at multiple locations, official sources said. A group of militants last week managed to escape after a gunfight in Udhampur district, which borders the Chenab Valley comprising Doda and Kishtwar districts.
All the major power projects operating in Kishtwar and other adjoining districts had been directed to heighten their vigil, officials said. In Kashmir, the security of all major installations has been tightened too. Frisking, vehicle searches, and the surveillance of former militants has also been stepped up, officials said.

“The police are working in close coordination with other security agencies. They are carrying out sustained and aggressive operations against terrorists, their overground workers, sympathisers, drug traffickers, and hawala operators,” Mr. Prabhat said.
The ongoing operations were aimed at “dismantling the entire terror ecosystem”, he said, adding “Drug trafficking and hawala rackets are being treated as serious national security threats.”
Security preparedness is being reviewed by J&K Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha at periodic meetings on operational preparedness and outcomes. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah is kept regularly informed about the security scenario, and progress made in curbing terrorism in the Union territory,” the DGP said.
