Supreme Court rejects makers' plea; sent back to High Court

The Supreme Court has directed the makers of Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' to return to the Madras High Court regarding CBFC clearance. The apex court refused to intervene, emphasizing the High Court's division bench should hear the matter. This follows the High Court's stay on a single judge's order for film certification, leaving the movie's release pending.

Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film, ‘Jana Nayagan’, has been in the news recently due to the ongoing legal battle between the makers and the Central Board of Film Certification. The latest reports suggest that the Supreme Court has dismissed the plea filed by KVN Productions seeking CBFC clearance on Thursday.

What is the Supreme Court’s order?

As per a report by India Today, the Supreme Court made it clear that it will not interfere at this stage. It asked the makers to go back to the

Madras High Court

. The apex court said the matter must be argued before the division bench of the High Court. Earlier, the division bench had pulled up the makers for showing a “false sense of urgency.” It had also directed the CBFC to hold the certificate until the case is fully heard. The Supreme Court further asked the High Court to “endeavour to decide the appeal on January 20.”

Why the case reached the top court?

Earlier this week, the Madras High Court stayed a single judge’s order that asked the CBFC to grant clearance to the film. After this stay, the makers moved the Supreme Court against the decision. However, the top court refused to entertain the plea and sent the producers back to the High Court. As of now, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is still waiting for CBFC approval. Directed by

H. Vinoth

, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain.

The film is said to be Vijay’s last movie before he enters politics full-time.After the delay, Venkat K. Narayana of the production house shared a video message on Instagram. He also spoke about Vijay’s importance to the project and added, “Above all, we firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell he has earned through decades of love from his fans.”
