Five sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹32,000 in cash were reportedly stolen from a house near Sreeprabha Auditorium at Payyanur in Kannur. The theft took place at the residence of the late Max Machine Tool owner N.V. Mohanan and his wife E.V. Geeta.
The family had reportedly left for their daughter’s home in Bengaluru a few days ago. The incident came to light around 6 p.m. on Sunday (June 1, 2025) when Geetha’s son, Gokul Mohan, who works in Kasaragod, returned after about ten days and allegedly found the front door opened.
According to the police, the thieves reportedly broke open two cupboards in the bedrooms to steal the valuables. The back door was then opened using a spare key found inside the house to make an easier exit, they said.
The Payyannur police arrived soon after being alerted. A forensic team and dog squad inspected the house. Geeta and her family returned on Monday morning. A case has been registered and the investigation is under way.
