Ranchi: A total of 139 schools across the state were selected at the state-level under the ‘Clean and Green School Rating’ (Swakshya Evan Harit Vidayalya Rating) and the Chief Minister’s Clean School Award (Mukhyamantri Swachh Vidayalya Puraskar) initiative.
Of these, 20 were shortlisted for the clean and green school rating, while 119 schools will receive the Chief Minister’s Clean School Award, Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) said in a statement.The selection process for both initiatives witnessed participation from 79,922 govt and private schools across the state. Under SHVR, 38,299 schools participated, while 41,623 schools took part in the Chief Minister’s Clean School Award.
After evaluation at block, district and state levels, the final list of state-level selected schools was released late on Thursday.The assessment process involved state-level teams along with 2,477 cluster resource persons, block resource persons, block programme officers, junior engineers and assistant engineers. Schools were evaluated and verified on the basis of 13 key indicators, following which the final selection was made.
“The list of 20 schools selected under the Clean and Green School Rating will be forwarded for national-level meet in next few months,” JEPC said. To ensure sustained compliance with the prescribed standards, weekly reviews will be conducted for schools selected under both categories.Director of the JEPC, Shashi Ranjan, said, "The initiatives goes beyond hygiene and focuses on developing environmental responsibility, water conservation, energy efficiency and sustainable lifestyles among students.
The selected schools will be developed as model institutions to inspire others across the state."Schools were selected based on various indicators such as availability of safe drinking water, functional toilets, maintenance of sanitation infrastructure, promotion of hygiene practices, active child cabinets, eco-friendly and green school activities, among others.
