Jharkhand teen offers girl, 5, sweets, then rapes her; detained

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident happened when the girl went to study at the Anganwadi in Jariagarh village. She had a meal and then came out. The teen called out to her on the pretext of giving sweets.

After offering her a sweet, the boy lured her about 300 metres away into a bush with promises of more sweets. He then raped her and fled the spot, police said.

The girl returned home crying, but her mother was ill and her father was working in the field. When her father came home, she told him what happened. The family then took her to the Jariagarh police station and lodged a complaint.

The police immediately sent the survivor to the hospital for medical examination and treatment, and she remains in serious condition, officials said.

After investigation, the police detained the accused minor. Further investigation into the case is on.
