The Steel city is fast emerging as an annual destination for the connoisseurs of the prized classic and vintage cars rally.With only three editions being held so far between 2022 and 2024 it has built an overwhelming experience among people.“Tata Steel Vintage and Classic Car rally is the most happening event for people keen about watching vintage and antique cars race. I participate in the event with my family and friends,” said businessman Gurmukh Singh Khokhar, who was the overall champion in the first edition of the rally. The septuagenarian owns the 1933 model Austin 7.Organized by Tata Steel every year in February, the vintage and classic cars and bikes rally is organized as part of Founder’s Day celebration.The rally witnessed the participation of around 30 vintage and classic cars dated from 1920s to 1980s in the first edition and around 70 prized automobiles in the third edition. The vintage cars comprises of Mercedes-Benz Nurburg (model RJJ1, year 1928), Ford (year 1931) Fiat (model TIPO, year 1932), Chevrolet (model Confederate, year 1932), Austin (model Austin 7, year 1936), Austin (model Austin 104, year 1936),Mercedes (model 170 V, year 1938), Jaguar (model - Jaguar Mark IV), Chrysler (model-Windsor, year 1947), Morris (model BRT 2655, year 1945) Wolseley (model- Saloon, year- 1948) to name a few.
The rally covering a total route of approximately 23-km passes through prominent landmarks like Regal Circle, Bharucha Mansion, KS Link Road, Marine Drive, Jubilee Park.Notably, on the inaugural of the first edition, Tata Steel, MD, T V Narendran had said, “Signature events such as the Jamshedpur vintage and classic car and bike rally are aligned with our corporate philosophy of supporting initiatives that preserve, protect and promote cultural heritage.”
