Justin Trudeau’s ex-wife Sophie Grégoire breaks silence on his romance with Katy Perry, says such "stuff affects" one

Sophie Grégoire is making it clear she won’t let Justin Trudeau’s highly public romance with Katy Perry derail her peace. Speaking on the “Arlene Is Alone” podcast, hosted by Arlene Dickinson, the 50-year-old public speaker addressed the attention surrounding her ex-husband’s new relationship, her first public acknowledgment since the story broke.Asked how she “stays cool” amid the headlines, Grégoire didn’t pretend to be unaffected. “We’re all human beings and stuff affects us,” she said, calling it “normal” to feel the emotional impact. Still, she noted that her response is where she draws the line: “How you react to stuff, is your decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”Throughout the conversation, Grégoire emphasized that while Trudeau and Perry’s romance has stirred complicated emotions, the only thing she can control is her conduct. “I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers, we’re humans. What I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.” She continued: “Does it mean that I don’t have emotions? That I don’t cry, scream, laugh? No!”She was equally candid about giving herself room to feel. “I’ll let myself be disappointed by someone, I’ll let myself be angry, be sad.

And I know for a fact how important it is, as a mental health advocate, to feel those emotions,” she told Dickinson.But she refuses to live in a reactive spiral: “You can stay in that reactive mode, but you’ll suffer the consequences. I’m also learning at 50 that people will meet life as where they are inside of them … it’s your choice to see that and be like, ‘How am I going to let that affect my happiness?’”Grégoire and Trudeau, who were married from 2005 to 2023, continue to co-parent their three children, Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

“We have separate lives, but we have one family life,” she said. “And I think that we need two individuals in a couple … to detangle.” She added, “It’s not always easy to live, but it’s very adult.”As for Trudeau and Perry, their connection first surfaced in July after they were spotted dining together in Montreal. The rumours were confirmed when photos emerged showing the pair kissing aboard Perry’s yacht. By late October, they had publicly appeared as a couple at Perry’s 41st birthday celebration in Paris.
