The Kalpathy car festival is set to take place from November 7 to 17 this year. Preparations are under way in Kalpathy streets for the festival, which is the largest chariot celebration of the Tamil Brahmin community in Kerala.

The 54th annual general meeting of the New Kalpathy Grama Jana Samooham held last week decided to further expand efforts to protect the heritage, environmental, cultural and traditional values of the Kalpathy agraharams.

The meeting recommended that different government departments, including local administration, police, traffic and other public services, proactively plan and coordinate to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the growing number of visitors attending the Kalpathy car festival.

The meeting urged the district administration to take immediate action to regulate photography and videography in the agraharam, as “intrusive filming by outsiders” was disrupting the peaceful life of the villagers and compromising the area’s heritage and dignity.

The meeting adopted a resolution urging the traffic authorities to install speed limit signs on the New Kalpathy Road to mitigate the risk posed by speeding vehicles to pedestrians.

Grama Jana Samooham president K.S. Krishna presided over the meeting. Secretary T.V. Ganapathy Vinod and Grama Janakshema Samiti secretary Ramesh Krishnan presented a report. Treasurer A.V. Ramanan presented the accounts.
