British-Pakistani actor Alyy Khan who has worked in several hindi films like ‘Don 2’, ‘Luck by Chance’, ‘Jo Hum Chahein’, recently praised Bollywood actors for their professionalism, highlighting their punctuality while noting gaps in Pakistan’s film industry.
Known for his work in both local and international projects, Khan compared his experiences.
Alyy Khan highlights gaps in Pakistan’s film industry
In a chat on ARY podcast, Alyy Khan discussed challenges in Pakistani cinema, saying, “It’s not just about professionalism. It is also about the kind of exposure we are getting over here (Pakistan). The way things work here, the decorum of the set, all these things factor in. Now if we don’t get that kind of exposure, how are we expected to operate on the same level? You can even train people by keeping a team, but we don’t have the kind of sustainable work to keep that team together.
”
Actor believes improvement is possible with time
Despite challenges, Khan remains optimistic about the local industry. He noted that actor tantrums often result from how producers manage schedules. He said, “I do think that with that time, we can get better at this. If any actor feels like they are allowed to come 3-4 hours late on the set, then it is the fault of the producer. Suppose an actor gets Rs 1 lakh for a day, and he misses half the day of the shoot. Will he take half the salary? They won’t, and they’ll say things like, ‘Do I get residuals from the views we get on YouTube?’ No, they don’t.
So they are able to justify these things.”
Alyy Khan praises Bollywood actors’ strict punctuality
Alyy Khan singled out Bollywood actors for always respecting schedules and arriving on time. He highlighted Kareena Kapoor as an example, saying, “These things don’t happen internationally. If the camera is supposed to roll at 9 am, and Kareena needs 2 hours before the shoot, she will arrive on set at 7 am. The shoot will start on time, no matter what. You take 3 hours but then arrive accordingly.
There is no rocket science when it comes to these things. When people work with a variety of other people, then they understand how to behave.”
Alyy Khan stresses producer responsibility shapes behaviour
Khan also pointed out that actor tardiness is often due to producer leniency. “If any actor feels like they are allowed to come 3-4 hours late on the set, then it is the fault of the producer,” he explained.
