Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate several development projects and unveil a statue of Kittur Rani Channamma, in Vijayapura district on January 9.

Among other things, he will rename the bus stand after Kittur Rani Channamma, district in-charge Minister M.B. Patil said in Vijayapura on December 21.

“The statue was installed long ago, but was never unveiled due to various reasons. At the same time, we had requested the government of Karnataka to name the central bus stand after Rani Channamma. The CM has agreed to it,” he said.

The CM will inaugurate a velodrome, a project developed for cyclists. The project was started over a decade ago, but was delayed for several technical reasons. The project has been completed.

The government of Karnataka has sent a proposal to the Union Government to rename Vijayapura railway station after Sri Siddeshwara Swami, and to name Vijayapura airport after Basavanna. To a question, the Mr. Patil said that efforts will be made in the coming days to recognise the medieval-era Sufi saint Hashimpeer by naming some buildings after him. Mr Patil said the government had decided to celebrate the Navarasapur Utsav in March 2026.

The CM will launch the work on a new administrative building at Kanakadasa Extension in Vijayapura. The ground-breaking ceremony was performed on several occasions in the past, but this time, the work will be launched, the Minister said.

He hoped that all legal hurdles in the operation of Vijayapura airport would be resolved soon, and the project would take off in a few months.
