The Karnataka High Court’s Kalaburagi Bench has given the green signal for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Path Sanchalan in Kalaburagi’s Chittapur, allowing the procession to be held on November 16 from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
The district administration had earlier permitted only 300 participants, against the RSS’s request for 850 members.
Advocate Arun Shyam, representing the RSS, challenged this cap and sought permission for at least 600 participants.
After hearing the plea, Justice MGS Kamal allowed the procession with 300 uniformed participants and 50 band members, directing authorities to facilitate the event as scheduled.
This comes after the High Court's earlier direction on October 30, asking RSS convenor Ashok Patil to meet district authorities on November 5 at the Advocate General's office to discuss the modalities of conducting the event. The district administration then granted permission with restrictions, prompting the RSS to approach the court seeking relaxation.
The issue began when authorities in Chittapur, the home constituency of Minister Priyank Kharge, denied permission for the RSS route march on October 19, citing the possibility of disruption of peace and law and order.
Priyank Kharge has been a consistent critic of the RSS and has even sought a ban on its activities. Recently, he questioned why an “unregistered and unaccountable” organisation should be allowed to operate while claiming to serve the nation, asking why the RSS cannot register like other NGOs that function transparently and lawfully.
