Karnataka Weather Updates: Heavy rainfall disrupted life across parts of Karnataka, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue orange and yellow alerts in several districts. Authorities declared holidays for educational institutions and stepped up precautionary measures in vulnerable areas. An orange alert denotes “very heavy" rainfall of 11–20 cm, while a yellow alert signals “heavy rain" between 6–11 cm.
Bidar And Dakshina Kannada Worst Affected
In Bidar district, overnight showers in Aurad taluk caused water to overflow bridges, including Dadagi bridge in Bhalki taluk, leading to road closures. A stream at Narayanpur village was also reported in spate. Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma ordered schools and colleges in affected areas to remain shut as a safety measure.
In Dakshina Kannada, where the IMD issued an orange alert, the district administration declared a holiday for anganwadi centres, schools and pre-university colleges in Mangaluru, Puttur, Mulki, Moodbidri, Ullal and Bantwal taluks.
Safety Measures And Forecast
Taluk-level officers have been instructed to remain at headquarters with nodal officers on alert to respond to public complaints. Tahsildars have been asked to maintain constant contact with the administration.
The Bengaluru Meteorological Centre forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated locations over the next few hours. A yellow alert has been sounded for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Kalaburagi and Bidar.
