Karnataka State Law University recruitment: Committee to be set up, to submit report in two months

Minister for Law, Justice, Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation and Tourism H.K. Patil informed the Legislative Council that a committee would be constituted to look into the issues concerning recruitment for the vacant posts in Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) and submit its report within two months.

The Minister was replying to a question by member S.V. Sankanur regarding the sanctioned and vacant posts in KSLU.

Mr. Patil informed that the committee would comprise of DPAR Secretary, Law Secretary, Parliamentary Secretary and an experienced senior member. It would be asked to look into the issue of recruitment in view of various Supreme Court orders and directions, demand for giving weightage of marks to working professionals, and demand for age relaxation for non-teaching candidates. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the recruitment process would be taken up, he said.

Mr. Patil also said that KSLU is the only university in the State that had become self-reliant, and within next 12 months the law university would have all the infrastructure, barring one or two requirements.

Raising the issue, Mr. Sankanur had pointed out that even after over-one-and-a-half decade after establishment of the university, the institution continue to have a lot of vacancies in both teaching and non-teaching posts.

In his written reply, the Minister has said that out of the 68 sanctioned posts, only 11 posts had been given permanent appointment and 21 posts had been appointment on contract basis while 36 posts are vacant. Of the 71 sanctioned permanent posts and 100 temporary posts, 152 candidates had been appointed through outsourced agencies, one on contract basis and 18 posts are vacant.
