Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary on Thursday visited the Government Taluk Hospital in Kollegal town, inspected the facilities, and spoke to women patients on the medical services available there.
The Chairperson visited each department, interacted with in-patients and their attendants. During her visit, she asked patients whether they were getting proper treatment, and told them to buy medicines from outside.
“Nearly 100 to 125 deliveries take place every month in the hospital. It has come to my notice that there is a shortage of radiologists and nurses. The issue will be looked into,” she said.
She stressed the need for creating awareness against any discrimination towards girls, and said the mindset that only a male child is sought after must change. “Still there is discrimination against girl children in our society. Women today are excelling in all fields. In Chamarajanagar district, top positions such as Deputy Commissioner, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Superintendent of Police, and other senior posts are held by women. Women are on par with men in every field,” she said.
During her visit, the Chairperson said that there should be no disappointment in the family when a girl child is born. Awareness programmes must be conducted in the district to eradicate neglect and discrimination against girls, she advised.
She said that extra care is being taken in all hospitals after the death of post-partum mothers in Ballari. Special attention is being given to treatment, hygiene, and medication, she added.
ZP CEO Mona Roth, Hospital Medical Superintendent Lokeshwari, and others were present.
