The tigress which had attacked and mauled a farmer in Badagalapura village, Sargur taluk, close to H.D. Kote, was tranquilised and trapped by the Forest Department on Saturday.

Confirming the developments, Prabhakaran, director, Bandipur Tiger Reserve, said that one of the forelimbs of the three year-old tigress was found to be twisted, which rendered it incapacitated. Hence, it is speculated that the tigress was preying on the livestock of villagers, who had complained about the same to the Forest Department. The tigress has been shifted to Bannerghatta National Park, Mr. Prabhakaran said.

The authorities had brought elephants Bheema, Bhagiratha, Abhimanyu, and Mahendra for the combing operation, and the tigress was finally cornered and tranquilised on Saturday afternoon. Senior officials, including Assistant Conservator of Forest Satish, members of the Special Tiger Force, and others took part in the operation.

During the operation on Thursday, the tigress had pounced on and mauled Made Gowda, a farmer, who suffered severe injuries as a result.

Doctors attending the injured farmer at the private hospital in Mysuru told Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that the former was unlikely to regain his vision. Following this, the Chief Minister said that a compensation, computed as applicable to the loss of life or livelihood, will be payed to the victim. The government will also bear all the medical expenses for his treatment.
