After what she calls a harrowing month after being ‘discarded’ by the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and its chief and her father, K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana Jagruthi president, and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, has embarked on a four-month ‘Janam Baata’ yatra from Saturday (October 24, 2025).

Launching the yatra at the Martyrs Memorial in front of the Assembly, Ms. Kavitha sent a strong signal on whom she will be targeting during her yatra.

“Many people became martyrs in the Telangana movement. It is because of their sacrifices that we were able to achieve Telangana. But we must ask ourselves, have we truly fulfilled the ideals for which they gave their lives?” she asked.

Ms Kavitha also took a little blame on herself, saying she could not do much during the BRS regime as she was not a signing authority despite being an MP and MLC of the BRS party. “I admit I could have fought harder. Today, I sincerely apologise to them.”

‘Compensation not given to all’

Citing figures presented in the Assembly, she recalled that 1,200 activists had laid down their lives, but the promised ₹10 lakh compensation and government jobs were provided to only 580 families. “The remaining families have been denied justice.”

Turning emotional, Ms Kavitha said it was very difficult for a woman to succeed in politics as the strongest opposition comes from the near and dear. “I have the ambition to succeed, and I am not shy about it. Why should anyone feel shy to make a political career,” she asked.

Ms. Kavitha’s speech reflected on whom she was targeting and which party would be on her radar during her tour in the villages starting from Nizamabad on Saturday. She represented Nizamabad in the Parliament from 2014-2019 but was defeated in the subsequent election.

Ms. Kavitha had claimed the defeat was a conspiracy and the entire BRS cadre was aware of who betrayed her.

Towards creating her path, she said she is open to starting a political party or working with parties that suit her ideology. “I am receiving tremendous support from the Backward Castes as I sincerely took up their issue. This is the support even I didn’t expect,” she said.

Ms Kavitha’s yatra could also be the precursor to the formation of a new regional outfit, as she asked, when Andhra Pradesh could have two regional parties, why can’t Telangana?
