Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan was attempting to mislead the people of the State through his statements in the Munambam Waqf issue, alleged the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Ernakulam district secretariat on Tuesday.
The data of the holding was uploaded on the site in compliance with the 2025 Waqf (Amendment) Act. Even though the uploading of the information has no connection whatsoever with the proceedings pending in the court, Mr. Satheesan was attempting to mislead the people and make the issue complicated. All the legal issues regarding the holding were under the consideration of the Waqf Tribunal and courts, the statement pointed out.
The Chief Minister, who had earlier offered to resolve the issue in 10 minutes, should explore the possibilities for solving it rather than complicating it. The government should attempt to find a lasting solution to the issue through legal means, it demanded.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shone George demanded that the Kerala Waqf Board, which was constituted by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, should be disbanded. The board was constituted without following the provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act regarding the members of the board. The legislators of the BJP will approach the Chief Minister to press the demand, he said.
The BJP has also approached the Union Minister for Minorities Affairs to remove the data that was uploaded to the portal. The board posted the information without following the guidelines, he alleged.
