Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has called for compulsory military training to youngsters, terming it essential to instil a sense of discipline and foster patriot feelings in the youth.
Mr. Arlekar was addressing a Veterans Felicitation Ceremony organised at the Military Station, Pangode, here on Monday. He said that the sense of discipline, motivation and selflessness of our armed forces personnel should be preserved and infused in the next generation.
The armed forces, with their sense of discipline and sacrifice, are a model for entire society, Mr. Arlekar said. The forces set very high standards and inspire others, he said.
“The Armed Forces choose to be awake so that all of us can sleep in peace,” the Governor was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan.
The theme of this year’s felicitation was ‘Shaurya, Shakthi and Samman’ (Valour, Strength and Honour). Brigadier Anurag Upadhyaya, Station Commander, Pangode Military Station, presided over the function.
