The Kerala government has sanctioned ₹50 crore for the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) for market intervention programmes to avert rise in the prices of essential commodities during the Christmas-New Year season.
This amount is an additional allocation, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Saturday (October 25, 2025).
The amount of ₹50 crore is over and above the Budget allocation earmarked for Supplyco for market intervention. The 2025-26 Budget allocation of ₹250 crore was released for market intervention schemes ahead of this year’s Onam season.
In 2024-25, the State government had released ₹489 crore to Supplyco although the budget allocation was ₹250 crore, Mr. Balagopal said.
From 2011-12 to 2024-25, the State government has released ₹7,680 crore to Supplyco for market intervention on various occasions. Of this, ₹410 crore was released during UDF rule and ₹7270 crore, during LDF rule, Mr. Balagopal said.
