Kerala local body polls: PM Modi thanks voters of Thiruvananthapuram for NDA’s victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (December 13, 2025) thanked the people of Thiruvananthapuram for BJP-led NDA front’s historic win in the local body polls of the city.

NDA has secured power in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation, ending over four decades of the Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s rule, as the results of the local body elections were declared on Saturday (December 13).

Mr. Modi said the thumping victory that the allance has gained in the corporation a watershed moment in Kerala’s politics.

It is a major leap forward for the party, which had not won more than six wards until a decade ago. In the past two local body elections, the BJP had mounted a major push to capture power, but after the initial surge in 2015, it had remained almost static in 2020.

“The mandate the BJP-NDA got in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is a watershed moment in Kerala’s politics. The people are certain that the development aspirations of the state can only be addressed by our Party, Mr. Modi said in a post in X.

Mr. Modi added that their party will work towards the “vibrant city’s growth and boost ‘Ease of Living’ for the people.”

The NDA won from 50 wards in the 101-ward Corporation, while the LDF was reduced to 29 wards.
