The UDF delivered its strongest-ever performance in civic body elections in Malappuram district, decisively defeating the LDF across municipalities, grama panchayats, block panchayats and the district panchayat.

UDF won 11 of the 12 municipalities, 84 of the 94 grama panchayats, 14 of the 15 block panchayats, and 31 of the 33 district panchayat council in Malappuram.

When LDF won Ponnani municipality, UDF wrested Perinthalmanna and Nilambur municipalities from LDF, and retained Kondotty, Malappuram, Manjeri, Kottakkal, Parappanangadi, Tanur, Tirur, Tirurangadi and Valanchery municipalities.
LDF lost Perinthalmanna after three decades to UDF in a close fight. In the 37-member municipal council, UDF won 15 seats and LDF 14, when independents won 8 seats. Most of the independents were supported by the UDF.
In panchayats, it was a clear sweep for the UDF with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) putting up its best show in recent memory. However, in Ponmundam panchayat, the IUML buckled under pressure from a joint combine of the Congress, CPI(M) and other parties. There was no UDF or LDF in Ponmundam, where it was IUML versus others. The anti-League Janakeeya Munnani has wrested power from the IUML in Ponmundam.

The panchayats where the LDF secured majority in Malappuram district are Edapal, Elamkulam, Nannamukku, Niramarathur, Perumpadappu and Veliyamkode.
In Vettom, Vazhayur and Alamkode grama panchayats, the outcome remains uncertain as no front has secured a clear majority. A similar situation prevails in the Ponnani block panchayat, where neither front has emerged with a majority.
In the Malappuram District Panchayat, the UDF has swept 31 of the 33 divisions, with the LDF managing to secure victory only in the Changaramkulam and Maranchery divisions.
