The Ernakulam Central Police have filed a chargesheet against Kerala businessman Boby Chemmanur, alleging that he had made sexually loaded comments against a woman actor on social media.
The chargesheet, which was filed before the Ernakulam Magistrate Court, stated that the remarks were made with an intention to humiliate the actress. Police had collected evidence to confirm that he had made offensive remarks against various individuals on the social media. The chargesheet included video clips from interviews and the confidential statement given by the actor.
The chargesheet is a follow-up of the investigation carried out by a special investigation team led by the Ernakulam Central Police after the actor lodged a complaint on January 7, 2025 against him of making sexually loaded comments against her on social media and also personally while attending an inaugural function. The team had arrested him on January 8, 2025 from Wayanad.
Booked under non-bailable charges
He was booked under non-bailable charges, including Section 75(4) (making sexually coloured remarks as a form of sexual harassment) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act. He will be produced before the court.
The actor had lodged the complaint personally at the Central station complete with digital evidence. It was the second case to be registered by the Central police based on as many complaints by the actor. She had earlier lodged a complaint against 30 persons for allegedly making sexually loaded comments beneath her social media post.
