The renovation of the Mundamveli apartment complex for the rehabilitation of the erstwhile P&T Colony will be intensified, with work set to begin as soon as IIT Madras submits its report in September.
The 77 families from the erstwhile P&T Colony, located on the banks of the Perandoor Canal near Kadavanthra, moved into the apartments built by the GCDA in January 2024. However, a few apartments developed leaks during the very first showers in February that year, and before long, almost all units were affected by the relentless rain that followed.
The decision was taken at a regional-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday (July3, 2025) to review the progress of various projects in the districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, and Alappuzha.
Title deeds
The meeting decided to resolve issues related to the distribution of title deeds in Kothamangalam taluk within a month. Currently, certain technical issues remain with the forest department, which can be addressed at a high-level meeting. Once these issues are resolved, another 5,000 new title deeds can be distributed in Kothamangalam during the tenure of this government.
Science Park
A decision has been taken to acquire land for the proposed Science Park in Eloor municipality at the earliest. Around 15 acres of the 22.11-acre staff quarters of HIL company have been identified for the project. Steps will be initiated to cancel the title deed issued to the company.
Chellanam tetrapod seawall
The second phase of the tetrapod seawall project in Chellanam panchayat, costing ₹306 crore, has been approved. The project will be implemented at the earliest to lay the seawall along a 3.60-km stretch.
Land acquisition for the Aluva–Alangad road development will be intensified and completed within three months. The Public Works department has been directed to submit a revised estimate. Work will begin as soon as the acquisition is completed.
The authorities concerned informed the meeting that the new regulator across the Ammanathu Pallam Canal, aimed at ensuring adequate water from the Periyar River for drinking purposes, can be completed within a year.
