Kids mould eco-friendly Ganesha idols at Kothrud workshop

PUNE: With tiny hands shaping their beloved ‘Bappa’, children in Kothrud crafted eco-friendly Ganesh idols from shadu clay at a special workshop held recently. The initiative combined creativity with cultural values while spreading awareness about celebrating Ganeshotsav in an eco-friendly way.

The event was organised at Dahanukar Maidan under the initiative of Harshali Dinesh Mathawad, president of the BJP Mahila Morcha’s Kothrud unit. The workshop aimed to instill values of sustainability among the younger generation while reviving the traditional practice of crafting idols by hand. Along with children, parents also joined the activity, guided by experts who demonstrated the process of moulding and decorating idols.

Shadu clay was provided to all participants, ensuring that every family could carry home their own handmade idol.

Speaking about the initiative, Mathawad said, “Ganeshotsav is both a cultural and social celebration. Welcoming Bappa in an eco-friendly way is the need of the hour. This workshop helped children combine creativity with values, while also learning about their responsibility towards the environment.”

The event created a lively atmosphere where art, joy, and environmental awareness converged. Organisers said the underlying message was to encourage families to adopt household celebrations of Ganeshotsav in an environmentally responsible manner.
