Hernández and Vicente welcomed their son Santiago on February 25, marking a joyful new chapter for the family.

However, less than two weeks after the birth, the Dodgers star had to make a difficult decision. He chose to travel and support Puerto Rico during the World Baseball Classic.Hernández is currently recovering from elbow surgery and cannot play in the tournament. Even though he is unable to take the field, the Puerto Rican star still wanted to be around his teammates. That choice meant being away from his newborn son and wife during an emotional moment.

In an Instagram reel shared by El Nuevo Día, Hernández spoke honestly about how challenging it was to leave home. He admitted balancing fatherhood and baseball responsibilities was not easy. The veteran said the decision required both personal and professional understanding."It’s tough. Of course it’s hard to be away from the baby, but it’s also tough to be away from Mariana (his wife). What women go through in childbirth is truly something amazing that turns them into superheroes.

But I’m a father and at the same time I’m 'Kiké.' At home I’m Dad, but for me, coming here and being with everyone means a lot too. I can’t play in the games, but even for a few days, I want to be with the team and do everything I can for the team.

Because that’s why everyone’s here."Hernández also shared how meaningful the World Baseball Classic has always been for him. Being present with the Puerto Rico team still carries deep emotional value.

The tournament has long been one of his personal dreams."And playing in the Classic (WBC) in Puerto Rico has been a big dream of mine since 2006. That won’t happen now… but when Molina said he wanted me to come, I said OK. And I talked to Beltrán too, and there was no issue with me being here. It was a tough decision, but thankfully Mariana said, “Go ahead.” For Hernández and Vicente, the moment reflects both the joy of parenthood and the realities of baseball life.
