Amid the growing uproar over the alleged gangrape of a law student in South Kolkata, the surviour's father has broken his silence, demanding capital punishment for prime accused Monojit Mishra and two others involved in the heinous crime.

Speaking to India Today TV, the rape survivour's father said, "I want nothing but the highest punishment for Manojit Mishra and two others (Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee) involved in the crime. I have full faith in Kolkata Police".

According to officials, Monojit Mishra, an alumnus of South Calcutta Law College, raped the 24-year-old first-year student inside a security guard's room on the evening of June 25, while her seniors, Ahmed and Mukherjee, allegedly assisted him.

Even the father of one of the accused called for "strong punishment" for his son if his involvement in the crime is proved, asserting that he has complete faith in the state police.

"First, I am a citizen of India, then a father. The matter is sub-judice and the police are carrying out the investigation. We have trust in the court. Strict punishment should be given to him if he is found to be involved in the incident. We have full faith in the Kolkata police," he said while speaking to news agency ANI.

The survivor, a first-year student, alleged that she was blackmailed with a video recording of the incident and threatened into silence by the accused. According to her FIR filed at Kasba police station on June 26, she had gone to the campus for some work in the evening when the main accused asked her to stay back.

The survivour said Monojit called her outside the room and proposed her for marriage. While she was leaving the campus, she was forced into the security guard's room and gangraped by the trio. She pleaded with Monojit to let her go, but he ignored her requests, the survivor said. "I touched his feet, but he did not let me go, but he did not listen," her statement stated.

Meanwhile, the police custody of the three accused has been extended till July 8. The trio was arrested on June 26 and produced before the court the following day, which initially remanded them to four-day police custody. A security guard of the college, Pinaki Banerjee, was also arrested days after the incident.
