Comedian Ramesh Pisharody's light-hearted birthday festivities took a somber turn as they coincided with the tragic news of Kollam Sudhi’s death. Located in Dubai and unaware of the local happenings due to the time zone difference, Pisharody quickly deleted his posts, clarifying that the preparations for Sudhi’s funeral were overshadowed by the hectic wedding season.

Malayalam actor - comedian Kollam Sudhi passed away on June 5, 2023 following a car accident which happened in Thrissur, Kerala. Popular Malayalam anchor and comedian Ramesh Pisharody had faced criticism from netizens for posting a birthday celebration video on the same day of Kollam Sudhi's demise.Now in a recent interview, Ramesh clarified the misunderstood incident, citing the time difference in Dubai and Kerala as the main reason for him not knowing about Sudhi's demise on time.

Birthday celebration and misunderstanding

On the day Kollam Sudhi passed away, Pisharody was in Dubai attending a friend’s birthday celebration. He shared photos from the celebration on social media, unaware of the tragic news that had occurred back home. “After that, a flood of abusive comments came under my post, questioning if it was appropriate to celebrate a birthday while a friend had passed away,” he explained in an interview.

The actor and anchor later deleted the posts to avoid further misunderstanding.

Clarifying the timeline

Speaking to Kan Media Channel, Pisharody elaborated, “I was in Dubai, celebrating my friend’s birthday. There’s a one-and-a-half-hour time difference with home. I posted pictures of the celebration and went to sleep. Around 4 am, Shajon Chettan (Kalabhavan Shajohn) from the Mimicry Artists Association called me. He informed me that an accident had occurred, Mahesh Kunjumon was injured, and Kollam Sudhi had passed away.

Ramesh opens up on the challenges he faced

Pisharody detailed the challenges of arranging Sudhi’s body for public viewing, especially during the wedding season when auditoriums were unavailable. “While I was in Dubai, I received calls from MLAs and MPs and was trying to arrange an auditorium. But eventually, it was decided that the body should be placed here,” he said.He further explained that the criticism came before he could even fully comprehend the situation. “When I casually checked Facebook, a flood of abusive comments had appeared under my post asking if it was right to celebrate a birthday when a friend had died.
