Kriti Sanon marks her first tattoo, inspired by her National Award-Winning role in Mimi

Kriti Sanon, celebrated for her role in 'Mimi,' recently got her first tattoo as a tribute to the film's impact on her life and career. The design, featuring a bird, sun, and upward-flowing lines, symbolizes freedom, resilience, divine guidance, and her journey's triumphs.

National Award-winning actress Kriti Sanon has added a personal milestone to her journey — her very first tattoo. Inked at a tattoo studio in Mumbai by Sunny Bhanushali and his team, the design is more than body art; it is a promise fulfilled and a story etched in ink.The idea was born during the filming of Mimi, the 2021 film that changed her career and won her the National Award. Deeply moved by the character’s resilience, Kriti made a quiet vow to herself: “If this film touches people the way it touched me, I will carry it with me forever.” When the pandemic forced the film to release quietly on streaming platforms instead of in theatres, she feared her promise might dissolve into silence.

But as love for Mimi grew and recognition followed, she knew it was time to honor it.Her tattoo, placed on the inner side of her ankle, carries layers of meaning. A bird in flight symbolizes freedom, resilience, and courage, while also connecting directly with her character Mimi, who too had bird tattoos. Above it, a radiant sun represents divine guidance and fulfillment. Flowing lines rise upward, capturing the pauses, struggles, and eventual triumphs of her journey.

“This wasn’t just a tattoo,” says Sunny Bhanushali.

“It was a bridge between the character that changed her and the woman she is today.”The process was intimate and reflective. After more than a week of sketches and refinements, the final design was inked late at night, when the studio was quiet. Artist Grishita brought it to life in two hours of intricate work, while Kriti sat calm and thoughtful, occasionally smiling, sometimes lost in reflection.

She chose the ankle placement for its subtle symbolism — staying grounded even while soaring high. For the team at Aliens, working with Kriti was a reminder of what makes true stars shine. “She wasn’t looking for something flashy or decorative,” Sunny recalls. “She wanted a tattoo that told her truth.” Between stencils and strokes, conversations flowed about art, cinema, and her vision for her brand, leaving the artists impressed with her warmth and humility. For Kriti, the bird, the sun, and the upward flow will forever remind her of a vow kept, a journey honored, and a dream fulfilled.
