The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has allowed repeaters and private candidates appearing for SSLC and II PUC examinations from the current academic year to register and pay the exam fee online on the Board’s website.
The KSEAB has taken this step on the instructions of the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL).
Speaking to The Hindu, Gopalakrishna H.N., Director of KSEAB, said, “For the convenience of repeaters and private candidates, we have implemented a system of online registration for SSLC and II PUC examinations for the first time. Separate guidelines will be issued in a couple of days in this regard.”
Over 90,000 repeaters
The Board has already implemented online registration for all school candidates (freshers) for SSLC and II PUC examinations. However, every year, more than 90,000 repeaters and private candidates register for these examinations.
Till now, private candidates who met the prescribed age limit had to go to their nearest government high school and PU colleges to register for the examination and pay the fee there. Repeaters also had to go to the school and college they had studied earlier, register for the examination and pay the fee.
The fee paid by the candidates was deposited by the headmasters of the respective high schools and principals of the PU colleges to the KSEAB.
However, when candidates went to register for the examination, it was common for headmasters and principals to be absent and students to be allegedly harassed. Many complaints were submitted to the KSEAB about the high fees being charged for the examination.
In addition, sometimes the fees collected from the candidates were not deposited to the KSEAB within the stipulated time, and a few candidates did not receive the examination admit cards. To avoid all these glitches, the KSEAB has taken steps to implement the online registration for SSLC and II PUC exams for repeaters and private candidates.
Candidates welcome move
Candidates are happy with the development. “I had to go to the college three or four times to register as a private candidate for the II PUC exam last year. I have backlogs in two more subjects, so I am registering for the exam again this year. It is very convenient that the exam registration and fee payment can be done online. This will save our time,” said Sagar M.V., a candidate.
