KSWIFT to aid MSMEs to manage professional tax issues

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has put in place a system to help Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State to manage professional tax issues through the Kerala Single Window Interface for Fast and Transparent Clearance (KSWIFT). The system would help small traders avoid physical visits to government offices for purposes related to professional tax.

MSMEs can apply for registration through the KSWIFT website https://kswift.kerala.gov.in/index/, set up as part of the government’s initiatives to improve Ease of Doing Business. The enterprises can submit the necessary licences and certificates to manage professional tax registration and processes related to it. With this, small business owners will not need to handle cumbersome paper work or make personal appearances at the respective local body offices.

Single online system

KSWIFT was introduced to make setting up and operating businesses easier, by offering a variety of services to businesses, particularly MSMEs, by quick facilitation of government approvals. It facilitates entrepreneurs to apply for all necessary approvals from different government departments through a single online system, eliminating procedural delays and significantly speeding up the approval process.

Under the Industries department’s Year of Enterprises initiative launched in 2022-23, around 3.5 lakh MSMEs have been started, generating 7 lakh jobs. Quite a few of the new entrepreneurs are unaware of the processes and paperwork involved in running businesses, making the KSWIFT initiative a much-needed one for many.
