The Kuruba community has a rich legacy of valour, literature, spirituality and statecraft, while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has earned recognition for his fight for social justice, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge has said.

He was speaking at a felicitation programme organised for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the occasion of the naming of the city bus stand after Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna and the unveiling of Rayanna’s statue in Kalaburagi on Wednesday.

“The Kuruba community has never betrayed the trust of the people. Under Siddaramaiah’s leadership, the government is delivering on its promises. The guarantee schemes are being implemented exactly as pledged before the elections,” Mr. Kharge said.

He pointed out that long-pending demands of the community, including the allotment of three acres of land and the installation of Sangolli Rayanna’s statue, have finally been met after overcoming legal hurdles.

Urging people not to fall prey to misinformation, Mr. Kharge said: “You often believe what they [BJP] send on your WhatsApp instead of what you actually see with your own eyes. You see ESIC Hospital, Jayadeva Hospital and many other development works. Yet, you prefer to believe the false information circulated on WhatsApp. I urge you to support those who genuinely work for your cause and development.”

Highlighting the conflict between right-wing and democratic forces in the country, Mr. Kharge appealed to the people to back Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Siddaramaiah whom he described as frontline fighters in the battle to save the Constitution and the country.

“On the one hand, efforts are being made to protect the Constitution, while on the other, attempts are being made to implement Manusmriti. Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Siddaramaiah are leading the fight against this conspiracy and you must strengthen their hands,” he said.

Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh, in his address, stressed that education is the only path for the community’s progress and urged Kurubas to give top priority to it.

Kalaburagi MP Radhakrishna Doddamani, KKRDB Chairman Ajay Singh, MLAs Allamprabhu Patil, MLC Tippannappa Kamakanur and Kuruba community leader Gurunath S. Pujari were among those present.
