Lapses alleged in use of SC development fund in Kannur Corporation

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha State president Shajumon Vattekad has alleged that the Kannur Corporation has failed to utilise the Scheduled Caste Development Fund amounting to over ₹898 crore over the past four years.

In a statement, he said the Corporation had allocated over ₹21.43 crore for SC welfare between 2021-22 and 2025-26 but spent only ₹12.45 crore. He added that the unspent amount reflected a serious lapse on the part of the Corporation’s administrative committee. He alleged that the funds meant for essential services such as land, housing, education, employment, and drinking water had been left idle, exposing what he described as a betrayal of SC communities.

Mr. Vattekad has filed a complaint with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes seeking an investigation into the matter. He said the BJP SC Morcha would launch a strong protest against the Corporation’s administrative committee over the alleged lapse.
