AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday said the deletion of about 95 lakh voters, “mostly bogus,” in the draft electoral roll had only reinforced his party’s case for the special intensive revision (SIR) of the roll.
In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Palaniswami accused the ruling DMK of “preparing itself to enact several dramas of lamentation” out of its “frustration” that the “plans to swallow democratic values,” using the bogus voters, had been dashed.
Urging electors not to panic in the event of their names having been left out of the roll, the AIADMK leader said his party would ensure that no genuine voters were omitted from the final rolls.
He asked his party volunteers to compare the old and draft rolls booth-wise and ensure that those falling under the category of absent, shifted and deceased stood deleted from the rolls and the omission of any genuine voter had been set right. The party cadre should carry out the tasks on a war footing, he said.
AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran pointed out that the time for corrections and inclusion of names of voters had been extended to January 18 and urged his party members to assist the people.
