Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic came up with another characteristic moment of slapstick humour as he let out a caricature laughter when a fan from the crowd during his practice game against Daniil Medvedev blurted out, ‘Let’s go Roger’.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner let out an exaggerated laugh, sending the gathered crowd into a fit of laughter in yet another highlight moment.

Djokovic’s search for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title faces a challenging path as the Serbian star appears to have sustained a neck injury just before the season-opening Australian Open.

The 38-year-old, ranked world No. 4, had to cut short a practice session after only 12 minutes on Wednesday, raising fresh concerns about his fitness just four days before the first major of 2026 begins.

During an evening training session in Melbourne, Djokovic was seen receiving treatment on the back of his neck. After experiencing difficulties with his serve, he called over long-time physiotherapist Miljan Amanovic, who massaged the area for several minutes. The session was then abandoned.

This injury adds to an already disrupted preparation. Earlier this month, Djokovic withdrew from the Adelaide International, admitting he was “not quite physically ready to compete."

This decision means the 24-time major champion has not played a competitive match since November 8, when he won the Hellenic Championship in Greece.

Observers also noted that Djokovic appeared to lack sharpness during a practice session with Jiri Lehecka on Tuesday, further raising doubts about his readiness for the two-week Grand Slam.

Djokovic is scheduled to face Frances Tiafoe in an exhibition match on Thursday night at Rod Laver Arena, provided his neck issue does not worsen. He will also discover his Australian Open draw in the coming days—a path likely filled with challenges.

To win the trophy in Melbourne for the 11th time, Djokovic may need to overcome Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the two players who have repeatedly blocked his path in major tournaments.
