Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Monday claimed that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu remained “critical” and the DMK government was “struggling” to eliminate crimes such as murder, robbery, theft and circulation of narcotic substances.

Mr. Vasan told presspersons at Tiruchi airport that the alleged gang rape of a college girl in Coimbatore had raised apprehensions over the safety of women.

Mr. Vasan said the fundamental reason for such crimes was the circulation of narcotic substances. It was really “worrying” that the ruling DMK government remained a “mute spectator.”

People of Tamil Nadu had begun to “hate” the DMK government for its “anti-people” rule and for its failure in implementing the poll promises which the party had given in the run-up to the 2021 assembly elections, Mr. Vasan said.

People of the State strongly believed that time had come to put an end to the DMK rule, he said and added that the anti-incumbency was rising. There was a bright chance of the anti-incumbency votes going in favour of the AIADMK- BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu, he said.
