LDF finalises seat-sharing in Kasaragod district panchayat

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has finalised seat-sharing for the upcoming polls to the Kasaragod district panchayat.

LDF district convener K.P. Satish Chandran announced that the division of seats among constituent parties had been completed, and that the front would contest in all 18 divisions in the district. Of these, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] will field candidates in 10 divisions, Communist Party of India (CPI) in three, and the Indian National League (INL) in two. The Kerala Congress (M), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will contest in one division each.

The CPI(M)’s main divisions include Cheruvathur, Madikkai, Bekal, Puthige, Kuttikol, Chitarikal, Kumbala, Kayyur, Delampady, and Chengala. The CPI will contest in Periya, Kunchathur and Badiadka divisions. The Kerala Congress(M) is contesting in Kallar, RJD in Pilicode, and the NCP in Manjeswaram, while the INL will field candidates in Uduma and Civil Station divisions.

In the 2020 local body elections, the LDF had secured control of the district panchayat, four of the six block panchayats, two out of the three municipalities, and 38 grama panchayats.

The LDF’s election conventions at the panchayat and municipal levels will be held from November 12 to 17, while ward-level conventions will conclude by November 20.

CPI(M) district secretary M. Rajagopalan, MLA C.H. Kunhambu, K.V. Kunhiraman, CPI district secretary C.P. Babu, and Kerala Congress(M) district president S.J. Sebastian were present.
