NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Tuesday heard a plea filed by actor Karisma Kapoor’s children seeking a share in the Rs 30,000 crore estate of their late father, Sunjay Kapur. The children allege that their stepmother, Priya Kapur, forged the will to claim full control of the assets. According to ANI, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, argued that the will was read in haste, the trust deed was withheld, and the circumstances surrounding the inheritance are suspicious.
Jethmalani pointed out that the will was unregistered, surfaced suddenly without naming the children, and was read at the Taj Hotel. He also noted that the executor only became aware of the will a day prior, and that the disclosure came from a family employee, Dinesh Aggarwal, raising further doubts.
The children have sought interim relief from the court. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, contended that the suit was not maintainable. The court issued a notice on the case and asked Priya Sachdeva, Sunjay Kapur’s wife, to provide a list of all movable and immovable assets owned by him.
Here's what happened
Karisma Kapoor’s children have filed a suit challenging the alleged will of their late father, Sunjay Kapur, claiming it was fabricated.
Kapur, 53, died of a heart attack on June 12 while playing polo in Surrey, UK. The children contend that their father never mentioned any will during his lifetime and have sought a partition of his estate, full disclosure of assets, and a permanent injunction against Priya Kapur and other defendants. The suit specifically challenges a will dated March 21, 2025, which reportedly leaves Kapur’s entire personal estate to Priya Kapur. The children allege that Priya’s actions since their father’s death “demonstrate without a doubt” that the will has been forged. They argue that neither the original nor a copy of the will has been shared with them. Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, submitted that the circumstances surrounding the will are highly suspicious. Priya initially denied the existence of any will, only presenting the March 21 document during a family meeting on July 30. The petition also seeks to include as defendants Priya’s minor son, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, and Shradha Suri Marwah, the executor of the will. The children claim that their father had assured them of their financial security and initiated business ventures in their names, including assets held personally and through corporate entities. The suit further alleges that the children were summoned to corporate meetings of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) and asked to sign documents without full access to trust deeds or associated records.Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, had publicly objected in July to Priya’s elevation as a director in the company, alleging coercion ahead of the AGM.
