EH: Leh transformed into a winter wonderland on Sunday with its first snowfall of the season, blanketing trees, houses, and fences in thick layers of snow.According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the town recorded a minimum temperature of -2°C.
In Sonamarg, Ganderbal district, residents and tourists enjoyed the snowy scenery as vehicles, buildings, and roads were covered in snow. Many took part in snowball fights and morning walks, relishing the scenic beauty of the winter landscape.Tourists expressed delight at the snowfall. A visitor from Assam said, "We enjoyed it after leaving the hotel in the morning. Due to the cold, we have to wear double clothes and caps.
Snowfall needs to happen. We thought about that before coming here, and everyone would enjoy the visit more if snow came."Another tourist from Punjab, Gagan, who visits frequently, said it looks like snow might fall this year. He encouraged fellow tourists to visit, adding that the locals are very welcoming."I have come here many times, but there was no snow or rain last year. This year, it seems like snowfall might happen in December, which would be great.
Thanks to light rain, Srinagar feels much more enjoyable this time around...The number of tourists has reduced since last year because of the attacks, but everything is safe here," he said.Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a temperature drop of 4°C since December 20 as the cold wave persists in the region, according to the IMD.Visuals from the area show heavy fog near Dal Lake, though boat rides and sightseeing activities continue to operate.(With agency inputs)
