Panaji: With a few systems active during the last few days fading out, only light rainfall at many places— and moderate only in few— occurred during the 24 hours till Saturday morning.Mapusa recorded the highest of 3mm, Old Goa and Pernem 2mm each, Dabolim 1.6mm, Ponda 1mm, Mormugao 0.8mm and Panaji 0.4mm.Rainfall figures of six centres— Margao, Sanguem, Quepem, Valpoi, Sanquelim and Dharbandora were not available.A trough from upper air cyclonic circulation across central Bay of Bengal, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and interior Karnataka at 3.1km above mean sea level persists.But the upper air cyclonic circulation over south Marathwada and neighbourhood at 1.5km above mean sea level has become less marked.Three slightly rainy days from Sept 14 to 16 had yielded 43.3mm, including 25.6mm on Sept 16— the highest 24-hour rainfall during this month and season so far.The last four days have yielded just 8.6mm.With no strong systems, the monsoon has weakened over Goa, as only light to moderate rain may occur during the next few days.
On Saturday, the seasonal total stood at 2999.6mm while 2913.7mm at this stage is considered normal – a low surplus of 2.9%.Sanguem centre has logged the highest rainfall of 3948mm followed by Valpoi with 3931.3mm while Mormugao has recorded the lowest of 2034mm during the season so far.
