With some trepidation about how social media would project his statement, Chief Justice of India B R Gavai on Saturday said some administrative members of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) — the first quasi-judicial forum for central govt employees’ to raise service related grievances — are averse to passing orders against the Centre.Addressing the 10th All India Conference of CAT, Gavai said, “As a judge, I have personally noticed that some of the administrative members do not forget that they are retired from administrative service and are averse to passing any order against the govt. They should reflect on this.” The CJI’s remark appeared to be a riposte to Union minister Jitendra Singh’s remarks on bringing an amendment to allow administrative members to head benches. Ahead of his remarks on CAT administrative members, the CJI said, “nowadays one does not know how his statement would be portrayed in social media”.
