Liverpool’s Premier League title victory parade ran into a day of chaos and horrific scenes in the city square after a car rammed into the parade, injuring nearly 50 people on Monday.
Merseyside police said that they have arrested a 53-year-old man, denying risks of terrorism-related activity in the horrific incident in northwest England.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident, and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism,” temporary Deputy Chief Constable Jenny Sims told reporters.
Visuals that have since been shared on social media showed people being thrown into the air as the car rammed into the spectators.
When the car stopped, angry fans converged on it and began smashing the windows as police officers intervened to prevent them from reaching the driver.
