Vasco: Vasco has been identified for the preparation of the City Logistics Action Plan (CLAP), a central govt initiative. Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer Siddhivinayak Naik has been nominated as an active member of the committee.Director for urban development (municipal administration), Brijesh Manerkar, issued the order through Govt of India, stating, “The department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), ministry of commerce and industry, has directed states to prepare city logistics plans (CLPs) for identified cities with the objective of reducing congestion, enabling smooth movement of cargo, and improving the efficiency of urban freight systems.
”According to the DPIIT’s guidelines, the first step in CLAP development is the constitution of a city logistics committee (CLC) comprising key govt departments, industry associations, and civil society representatives to provide inputs and guidance for drafting the plan. The chief officer will consider the council's role in urban planning, civic management, and traffic regulation within Vasco. “We are confident that the chief officer Naik’s participation will bring valuable insights and contributions towards preparing a comprehensive CLAP,” stated the order.
As per the roles and responsibilities of the CLC, the chief officer will act as a strong institutional mechanism ensuring coordinated and participatory decision-making involving all stakeholders. He will review the existing logistics landscape of Vasco, identify challenges, and outline key focus areas for targeted interventions. He will oversee the baseline assessment, define a clear vision and measurable objectives addressing sustainability, road safety, and emission reduction.
