The Karnataka Lokayukta police on Friday took an official of Shivamogga City Corporation into custody, while the latter was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
Shashidhar A.P., 57, a Community Affairs Officer, allegedly demanded bribe from Mohammed Aseef of Bommanakatte in the city in exchange of the khata of a newly purchased house under the latter’s name. Aseef, unwilling to pay the bribe, filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police.
The police caught Shashidhar red-handed at his office on Nehru Road around 4.15 p.m. on Friday. The trap was set up under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Manjunath Chowdhary M. and Deputy Superintendent of Police B.P. Chandrashekhar. Police Inspector Rudresh K.P. and his team conducted the operation, a press release said.
