Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique expressed his delight at achieving the “ultimate goal" of winning the Champions League following their 5-0 victory over Inter Milan.

Since their Qatari takeover in 2011, PSG has dominated French football, winning 11 of the past 13 French titles. However, the coveted Champions League title had remained elusive.

On Saturday, PSG decisively defeated Inter at the Allianz Arena, ending their long wait.

Luis Enrique, who previously won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015, had targeted this title since taking charge of PSG in 2023.

“On my first day at the PSG campus, my French was even worse than it is today. But I mentioned that my ultimate goal as a coach was to fill the trophy cabinet," the Spaniard noted.

“The only trophy missing was the Champions League. Now we’ve achieved it. We were ambitious, and we did it. It’s secured, and it’s coming home with us tomorrow."

He highlighted the performance of forward Ousmane Dembele, describing it as “incredible" and stating that “he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or."

Luis Enrique also paid tribute to his daughter Xana, who passed away from cancer in 2019 at the age of nine. After the final whistle, French fans unveiled a banner depicting father and daughter planting a PSG flag, reminiscent of a similar moment with a Barcelona flag in Berlin a decade earlier.

“It was emotional. It’s beautiful that the supporters thought about me and my family. But I don’t need to win the Champions League or even a game to think about my daughter," Luis Enrique said. “She’s always with me. She’s supporting me and our family, and I feel her presence."

‘Dream Becomes Reality’ For Doue

PSG’s double goal-scorer, Desire Doue, expressed his joy following the Champions League triumph, saying “a dream has become reality."

The 19-year-old shone at Munich’s Allianz Arena, scoring twice and providing an assist in PSG’s 5-0 rout of Inter Milan.

“I don’t have the words," said the young Frenchman. “Thanks to the Parc des Princes, thanks Paris. A dream has become reality. It’s just magnificent. It’s crazy, I’m so happy. It’s just the beginning."
